I’m very pleased to go head-to-head to defend bodybuilding on a plant-based diet in this month’s issue of Men’s Fitness Magazine! In the article, the question of whether or not you need meat to build muscle is presented, and an expert weighs in for each side. I have a lot to say about why meat isn’t necessary, so I was very happy to have the chance to do so for such a large and mainstream audience. Hopefully this article will get people thinking, and I expect we’ll be seeing more and more like this in mainstream fitness media to come! To read it for yourself, check out the link below or pick up a copy of the magazine in stores!

Great article!! Would of been great if they had a full body shot of you to show the doubters what a Vegan body builder looks like.
Great article. I love how the carnivore looks angry and you look at ease in your pictures. You brought up many good points, with knowledge and experience to back them up.
Awesome response! I agree with you 100% -- I think people are starting to become more aware of a plant based diet and it's because certain myths are being debunked by professionals such as yourself! I thought it was a bit interesting to see your credentials vs. the pro-meat credentials -- you definitely prove that being a vegan athlete can be both possible and beneficial in many ways and you back it up with science and experience!
Thanks Mary! And yes, we hope/expect this trend to continue!
Love this! Great job, Derek. I have read Men's Health and Men's Fitness many times over the years and I was always amazed how animal protein-centric EVERY article was. The editors definitely have a 'meaty' voice in those mags. Glad they finally gave some airtime to a plant-based athlete.
Thanks
